Sick Of Traffic?

Feel like griping about the over congested, beyond frustrating, pollution adding, obnoxious horn honking traffic that plagues Miami these days? Well for once complaining can really and truly pay off. In an attempt to get South Florida commuters to get out of there cars and onto bicycles, the City of Miami Beach will launch a program called Bike to Work Week March 6 through 11. Residents can submit a photo or 50-word essay describing how traffic congestion makes you feel and your concept of it and one lucky Miami Beach resident will win a $375 gift certificate to the Miami Beach Bicycle Center. Email submissions to essaycontest@1800234RIDE.com or mail to SFCS, c/o Essay Contest, 3201 W. Commercial Blvd., Suite 211, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309.
Bike to Work Week, founded by the league of American Bicyclists and hosted by the Florida Department of Transportation, will include commuting seminars and cycling workshops. Residents will learn tips on how to bike through traffic and avoiding accidents. In addition, city officials said in a press release that they plan to make the streets more bicycle friendly for commuters. For more information on events check out the website or contact Christine Leduc at 305-673-7080.
Bicycling works only in Miami Beach (and really SOBE). Everything else from Kendall to South Miami to Coconut Grove is simply too spread out and subject to high speed motor traffic which imperils the cyclist.
